Sandwich, Massachusetts, the oldest town on Cape Cod, holds a special place in my heart (and belly). As my hometown, I’ve been able to explore Sandwich’s beaches, historical landmarks, museums, art galleries, and of course, all things food. Below, you’ll find a guide to the 6 most unique and taste-filled spots that will be sure to satisfy your appetite.
1. Fishermen's View
20 Freezer Rd | Sandwich, MA, 02563 | 508-591-0088 | www.fishermensview.com
They also have an outside bar, “Sandie’s”, to enjoy a drink while you wait for a table and listen to some local live music. If you’re looking for a more casual night in, they have a full fish market and their entire menu is offered for take-out.
2. The Brown Jug
155 Main St | Sandwich, MA, 02563 | 508-888-4669 | www.thebrownjug.com
Located in the Sandwich Village, The Brown Jug started out as a specialty food and wine shop. Expanding from their gourmet foods to-go, they created an outdoor café with a cozy garden seating area, complete with a large brick pizza oven, where you can watch your fresh pizza being made and baked right in front of you. This is a nice, casual lunch and dinner option, as you order inside and choose a seat outside while you wait for your food to arrive.
3. The Dunbar House
1 Water St | Sandwich, MA, 02563 | 508-833-2485 | www.dunbarteashop.com
4. Off The Grid
91 Route 6A | Sandwich, MA, 02563 | 508-241-8684 | www.facebook.com/OffTheGridCC
A newer addition to Sandwich is the Off The Grid BBQ food truck. This isn’t your typical side of the road food truck that you may be thinking of. Their space offers numerous outdoor tables, a fire pit area, and live music, ensuring a fantastic time. One tip before visiting? Bring your appetite.
The menu has a wide range of options, from salads to poutine to BBQ plates, and my favorite, the specialty sandwiches. During my last visit, I was able to try two of these delectable dishes. The first was “The Pig Lebowski”, a pulled pork sandwich on a brioche bun, topped with fried pickles, coleslaw, and their house BBQ sauce. It was sauced to perfection and piled high. Needless to say, the stack of napkins given to us was necessary.
5.Ice Cream Sandwich
66 Route 6A | Sandwich, MA, 02563 | www.icecreamsandwichcc.com
6. The Sandwich Boardwalk
103 Wood Ave | Sandwich, MA, 02563
Last, but certainly not least, is The Sandwich Boardwalk. While it isn’t a food establishment, this iconic landmark is a perfect spot for packing a picnic or bringing your takeout to a place with the ultimate view. The 1,350 ft walk takes you to Town Neck Beach, located on Cape Cod Bay, ideal for throwing down a blanket and enjoying a meal on the edge of the gorgeous Mill Creek.
Although all of the places mentioned above provide takeout, here are some additional options for excellent dine-in & to-go meals.
